In 2001, the National Entrepreneurship Association (NEA) partnered with KidCommerce USA in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to teach youth entrepreneurship to economically disadvantaged youth. Â In a partnership with the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem, NEA and KidCommerce setup up Teen Incubator Centers in public housing facilities throughout Winston-Salem. Â These Centers were created using unoccupied apartments and employed some of the parents. Â These centers were used to teach classes and give the students a place where they could operate their businesses. Â Each Center was equipped with phones, Internet, and a computer lab. Â Students started a number of successful businesses and most of the students in the program have gone on to college and have graduated.
